Does this parasite live in your province?
How to recognize them
Fleas are brownish-red, wingless insects that measure 1–3 mm in length. Fleas are found nationwide and prefer warm and humid environments.
How they affect your pet
Your pet can get fleas from another pet or from areas where they live and play. These parasites feed on blood, which they get while biting their host.
Signs your pet may have fleas include:
- Frequent scratching
- Rubbing its body on the carpet or furniture
- Direct visualization of fleas or flea dirt on your pet
What are the risks to your animal?
If left untreated, flea infestations can lead to inflammation of the skin, infections due to trauma caused by scratching, and in severe cases, these infestations can lead to anemia.
If you suspect that your pet has fleas, please schedule an appointment with your veterinarian to discuss treatment of both your pet and your home.
